Glass Corner
Breaking the barriers between art and experience; silence and activism; discomfort and empowerment.
GKA's Glass Corner is a collection of pieces that explores the uncomfortable. The painful. The terrifying. The unknown. They will be personal stories, novel opinions, exposing narratives, and raw experiences. Appearing in every issue, these pieces will be centered around themes that may be controversial, sensitive, taboo, misunderstood, or uncomfortable in today's society. The purpose of the Glass Corner is to acknowledge that art exposes and explores the deepest and rawest parts of ourselves, and to shed deserved light on certain themes or topics that are important to us -- and hopefully -- you.
Work submitted to the spotlight corner are pieces that surround the chosen theme for that specific issue. Due to the heavier nature of such themes, we want our writers and artists who submit work to the corner to lean into the discomfort, and to be honest with their art. As a society, we have a tendency to glaze over or ignore topics that make us feel vulnerable to judgment, controversy, or criticism. Our aim with the Spotlight Corner is to establish a platform where these taboo themes are thrust into the spotlight, where the writing and artwork will reflect the personal stories, experiences, narratives, and perspectives of real live people, regarding these situations.
So make them raw, make them honest, make them revealing, make them vulnerable. Art is most terrifying when it is candid, when we realize how real it is. So lean into discomfort. Let your voice flow. Whatever you submit, we will be listening.
